It is a deep exposure of the body, as well as a means of expression from the depths of one's being.
So, for me, a way to share the joy of this culture among so many other institutions to children, parents, and community from all horizons, through classrooms and the stage as it happens in my village”
We offer basic steps as well as challenge steps.
Another way for us to see where we've come from and where we're going.
This allows students to see their level as well.
How it works?
After couple minutes of warm up, the student will be given the name of the dance and drum rhythm they will learn, its place of origin and its meaning.
Each dance step will be broken down into a simple form and taught in an A, B, C teaching style.
The teacher will play the drum rhythm verbally, much like the beatbox, so that students become familiar with this style of drum rhythm before dancing with live drums.
Once the students are able to dance on their own, without the teacher showing them each step, they will repeat the routine couple times through the live drumming.
And they will learn an African song, if possible, which they will sing before dancing. Students will dance and sing repeatedly to the rhythm of the live drums
